Next up on AMAC’s Fortnightly Five we spoke to the amazingly talented guitarist/singer/songwriter Kelly Bourne.
1. Tell us a little about what you do, how long have you been doing this and how did you get started?
I play solo all over the southeast at bars, restaurants, weddings, and private functions. It all started when I taught myself to play guitar and began singing in shows at school! I have been performing for 22 years and have lived and worked as a musician across the Mediterranean and London. These days I mainly play popular acoustic covers ranging over all decades from 50’s to now, although writing is very close to my soul and when playing the right venue, I prefer to do originals. I write in a very personal acoustic style and really enjoy when people can connect to me via my music. I have also performed in a few groups and bands and currently I front a function band called ‘fit 2 funk’.
2. Any influences or role models?
My influences include David Gilmour, Alanis Morrissette, Jewel, Joni Mitchell, Stevie Nicks, and Sheryl Crow
3. What’s your greatest or proudest achievement to date?
My proudest moment apart from the birth of my 2 girls is first moving to Barcelona on my own at 20 years old and flying solo to many different countries to perform after that.
4. Tell us an interesting fact about yourself/funny story about yourself
I have a small obsession with classic minis and have owned 7 to date.. too small for the kids, the dog and music equipment now, but I WILL own one again one day!
5. How can people find out more about what you do?
