Create A Revelation!

The announcements for this years Create Festival have already begun to surface, filling some of us with excitement and some of us with concern.

Now, before I go any further I would like to clarify that I am a huge fan and supporter of the Create Festival. I may have in the past and will in the future complain about certain aspects of the event, but it is always constructive and meant with affection. It took me a while to realize that Create was now no longer an Ashford festival, but a festival in Ashford. Not to mention being one of the best free festivals you will find in this country.

Now that we have set things straight, lets get down to business.

It has been announced that Revelations at Ashford’s St Mary’s church will be hosting two Create Platform events. These being a DJ set from Fun Lovin Criminals front man Huey Morgan on Wednesday 17th July and a DJ set from The Specials front man Terry Hall on Thursday 18th July.

Now please don’t get me wrong. I understand that last years DJ set from Six Music’s Craig Charles was a huge success, but does lighting really strike twice and especially on two consecutive nights. Would it not hurt to perhaps have at least one live act in Ashford’s best live music venue, considering that the DJs chosen are excellent musicians in their own right. I know that I’m an old fuddy duddy when it comes to DJs but to me playing records isn’t live music, it’s a disco.

This is an event that isn’t me, this doesn’t make it a bad event, just not one for me. I would just like to have seen a variation in the two nights, that’s all.

Personally my fingers are firmly crossed for a band or live solo performer as a headliner for the main stage of the festival its self. I did however enjoy what Mr. Jeff put on for us, but again I would like to see some variation, may be a female performer for a change.

If this sounds like your idea of a great night out, then early bird tickets are £18 and £22 on the door. If you are one of the many people who disagree with me, then you are absolutely right and I invite you to email us a review of the event that you attend and we will post the best ones on the site. Once again, well done and thank you to the Create organizers for doing their best to entertain us and here’s to an awesome festival.
