TMI. The new home of the AMAC Podcast

If you are up to date with our latest podcasts, you will have already heard that as soon as we are able, The Made Inn (TMI) will be the new home of the AMAC Podcast.

Prior to Lockdown 1 Right Track Music was our base, but following it's recent closure we needed a brand new space to record the shows, and put on acoustic events to compliment the originals nights at The Glass House. What better Ashford venue to do this in than TMI!

We are really looking forward to working with Steve as soon as we are able to. In the mean time, we caught up with him to find out a bit more about him, TMI, and his thoughts on the future of working with AMAC.

We are super excited for TMI to be the new home of the AMAC podcast, and working with you to put on music and arts events. What will this new partnership mean to you?

From first opening we committed ourselves to being Ashford's only dedicated acoustic music venue, honouring the history and sentiment that the pub has to many in the Ashford music community. Partnering with AMAC is a great privilege and allows us to build on that commitment to promote live, local, and talented artists who deserve a platform.

How long have you had TMI, and didn’t this used to be a music shop?

TMI has been open almost 3 years after taking over the empty music shop that had been here for over 40years. You can see our tribute to a former shop owner & local legend Martin Judd on the wall in the bar.

For those who have never been to TMI what should they expect?

Expect an open community of people from all ages and backgrounds, expect craft beer. We serve 24 different beers at any one time here at TMI all on draught, all from specialist craft breweries. Expect artisan spirits, it's not all about the beer. We hand select (and taste) all our spirits to curate a diverse menu to enlighten your taste buds.

TMI has a zero tolerance for loutish behaviour. Everyone should feel comfortable here so expect a warm welcome, you are now a Madeinner.

We know as a venue, pre-COVID-19 you did a lot to support local music in Ashford. Can you tell us a bit about the types of things that take place at TMI?

First off, we need to tell you about our live music sessions. Kent based musicians performing on what we describe as “amplified acoustic”, this means it's normally a solo or duo, a mic, and an electro acoustic guitar. We don't allow the use of drum kits, kick drums, electric guitars or backing tracks, it's raw, it's very personal as it's a small room.

Secondly Open Mics, run by our good friend Ben Kisnorbo, a talented host, an all-round good laugh with a great following, newcomers & circuit veterans are welcome!

Quiz Nights, with the man, the myth, the legend, Phill Thorne a talented Radio DJ with subscription rock & metal radio station Primordial & Co-host of Caught in a Mash a craft beer podcast. Phill hosts a SpeedQuiz every other Thursday, it's great fun and booking is recommended.

Alongside all of this, we host many events. Rude Albert a folk collective meet once a month to take over the pub. Comedy nights should return as soon as we can. Summer Cookouts with BBQ’s in our courtyard garden have been sorely missed in 2020.

How have you been getting by during the COVID-19 pandemic?

Online sales have played a huge part in balancing the books. Free delivery to the Ashford borough, and chargeable nationwide delivery by ordering online at www.madeinnco.co.uk.

What’s your greatest or proudest achievement at TMI?

People, community, and quality of experience… I built TMI based on the fact I felt I had nowhere in my town to drink. I wanted to build a pub where people felt comfortable, I didn't want to produce that same old, loud, low quality environment in which certain groups, and individuals feel uncomfortable, vulnerable, and not welcome. I think I achieved this, and I'm sure our ever-growing family of Madeinners would agree.

Have you had any interesting visitors to TMI you can tell us about?

One thing we learnt quickly is that every person that walks through our front door is interesting, taking the time to talk to our customers sets us apart.

Where can people find you, and how can people find out more about TMI?

Social media is our go to for daily & weekly updates our tag is @madeinnco across all platforms where we are available. Our website is www.madeinnco.co.uk

The pub address is The Made Inn, 10 New Rents, Ashford, Kent, TN23 1JJ
